WEMIX, a blockchain gaming platform under South Korean listed gaming company Wemade, disclosed a hacking incident on March 4th, stating that "on February 28, 2025, approximately 8654860 WEMIX tokens were abnormally extracted due to malicious external attacks on Play Bridge Vault." WEMIX stated that it had taken immediate action to prevent further damage and cooperated with law enforcement agencies to track down the attackers. On March 13th, the WEMIX Foundation executed 20 million WEMIX tokens to mitigate market impact.
In addition, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency today, Wemix suffered losses of approximately 9 billion Korean won (approximately 6.22 million US dollars) in the February 28 hacking incident. The Wemix Foundation, in response to external accusations of delayed announcement, emphasized that "there has never been any intention or attempt to conceal hacker attacks. The representative of Wemix Foundation stated, "After discovering the hacker attack on February 28th, we immediately shut down the affected servers and began detailed analysis. On that day, we submitted an indictment against the unidentified attacker to the Network Investigation Department of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department, and the National Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating. In the absence of a confirmed intrusion method, hastily issuing an announcement may expose us to the risk of further attacks, so no announcement was made immediately. As most of the stolen assets have already been sold, the market impact has already occurred, and it is difficult to guarantee that there will be no further risks. If announced immediately, it may trigger market panic
