Bitcoin's' self 'and' proof of identity ': an emergent philosophical exploration
Bitcoin, as a decentralized digital currency, has sparked many philosophical reflections on its concept of "self" and how to prove "I am myself". The world of Bitcoin has emerged from numerous independent "miners" individuals, each striving to compete for the reward of the longest chain.
This competitive mining process is like a pursuit of 'self'. Miners demonstrate their contribution to the entire Bitcoin network by calculating nonce values and generating new blocks. However, they cannot unilaterally determine whether they have generated the longest chain. In order to confirm their "identity", miners must broadcast their new blocks to other miners, and determine whether they are on the longest chain based on the behavior feedback of other miners.
This mechanism of broadcasting and feedback bears striking similarities to the formation process of human self-awareness. Babies learn new vocabulary and then 'broadcast' it to others, confirming their learning outcomes through feedback from others. Each new block of Bitcoin is like a new 'cognition', and the broadcast and feedback between miners constitute the 'self referential recursive growth' of the Bitcoin system.
Therefore, the "self" of Bitcoin comes from the interaction between "me" and other individuals of the same type outside of "me". This interaction constitutes the "cultural system" of Bitcoin, endowing it with vitality and self growth ability. This is also the philosophical root of the continuous growth of Bitcoin's value.
In contrast, other formalized blockchain technologies are more like tools lacking a 'self'. They follow a deterministic mathematical logic that excludes the possibility of self-awareness. According to G ö del's incompleteness theorem, no formal logical system can prove its own completeness, which means that these blockchain technologies can only exist as tools and lack a "cultural system" with self growth value like Bitcoin.
In short, Bitcoin has built a unique concept of "self" through its emergent mining mechanism and broadcast feedback system. This' self 'does not come from a single centralized entity, but from the interaction and competition among numerous independent individuals. This also makes Bitcoin not just a technological tool, but more like a "cultural system" with vitality and self growth ability.
