Arbitrum @ Arbitrum_cn has been taking a lot of action recently. They recently joined Robinhood and underwent a significant upgrade called BoLD, which made important improvements to the dispute mechanism of the entire Arb network, making it more secure, open, and user-friendly. It seems that they are going to work together with Ethereum's upcoming major upgrade, Pectra?
There are three main differences between Arb's BoLD upgrade and previous versions:
Who can participate in verification: Previously, only specific nodes could initiate challenges to verify blocks. Now, anyone who is willing to pay a deposit can participate, just like the transformation from a closed club to an open square, which is more decentralized and proposes a series of mechanisms to solve the potential problem of attackers maliciously submitting a large number of garbage challenges.
Dispute resolution time: Previously, the dispute resolution time was uncertain and vulnerable to delay attacks, which could lead to disputes being dragged on for a long time, and even malicious attackers would repeatedly challenge to infinitely extend the time; After the BoLD upgrade, disputes will be resolved within a fixed time frame, currently set at 7 days (two challenge cycles, plus a two-day grace period for security committee intervention and a small amount of computation time), making the dispute mechanism more deterministic.
Deposit and rewards: In order to avoid malicious challenge attacks without cost, participants now need to pay a deposit to participate. Honesty is rewarded, and wrongdoing will result in the confiscation of the deposit, ensuring that everyone follows the rules.
Keep observing if Arb will take advantage of this Pola disk??
