The Pectra upgrade may be the most important reform for Ethereum ETH, as it concerns whether it can break through Fud and attract more funds and developers. Ethereum urgently needs a turnaround.
The merger of Prague (improvement of execution layer) and Electra (change of consensus layer) into Pectra upgrade mainly requires attention to the following upgrade contents:
1/Account abstraction and wallet upgrade
EIP-7702: Set EOA account code
EIP-7623: Increase Calldata costs
Simply put, the upgrade allows the wallet to be converted into a smart contract to execute transactions and also allows for payment of gas fees on behalf of others
2/Improve the verifier and pledge mechanism
EIP-7251: Raise the pledge limit for validators
The maximum valid balance for validators has increased from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH
EIP-7002: Execution layer can trigger exit
Allow direct trusted withdrawal of verifier funds from the execution layer without relying on intermediaries.
EIP-6110: Eliminate deposit latency for 2048 blocks
3/Upgrade Scalability and Data Storage
EIP-7691: Increase Blob throughput
The Blob capacity of Ethereum has increased from 3 to 6 (up to a maximum of 9), reducing congestion in L2 transactions, although 9 may not be enough.
EIP-7685: Introduce new communication channels between the execution layer and consensus layer
EIP-2935: Historical block hash storage
Store the hash of the last 8192 blocks on the chain
EIP-2537: BLS12-381 precompilation optimization encryption operation
Improve the efficiency of zero knowledge proofs (zk proofs)
The summary calculation layer strategy of Ethereum may seem foolish at least from the current perspective, but Ethereum is still addressing the needs of Ethereum and its L2 by upgrading to Pectra to reduce costs and increase speed, indicating that Ethereum developers know how to retrieve the value of the ETH chain.
In the internal economic model of ETH, EIP-7251 allows profits to compound within a single validator without relying on multiple nodes, EIP-6110 can accelerate the activation speed of new validators, and EIP-7002 makes staking pools and delegation mechanisms more efficient. Although these improvements are lagging behind, they can still solve the problem.
In addition to internal upgrades, a more active external developer community and community support are still needed to compete with Solana and Bitcoin.
