Odaily Planet Daily reported on Wednesday that at least dozens of employees of the US Technology Transformation Service were laid off, and the day before, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also carried out similar layoffs. In addition, a federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration can continue to enforce the deadline for federal workers to defer their resignations. US District Judge George O'Toole stated that unions suing to block the deadline are not eligible to file a lawsuit because they were not directly affected by the directive. He also stated that the court has no jurisdiction over these lawsuits. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) proposed an extension of resignation to federal workers in an email on January 28th, known as the "fork in the road," with an initial deadline of February 6th. Prior to this, workers must decide whether to remain in their original positions as they are unsure if their position or department will be cancelled, or accept the proposal from the Personnel Management Bureau that they will receive full salary and benefits regardless of the workload until September 30, 2025. After a group of unions filed a lawsuit, O'Toole issued a temporary restraining order on February 6th, extending the deadline to at least Monday. On Monday, he extended the deadline again until the ruling. On Wednesday, he ruled to lift the restraining order and left the next steps to the government and the Department of Efficiency (DOGE), which is leading efforts to reduce federal personnel.
