People do not change because they "know," but because they are "touched" | The starting point of change has never been "reason"!
This morning, I saw Brother Jinma @jinma_li's new public account "Chitu Jinma Award" publish the following text, and I was struck by it—
"People do not change because they 'know,' but because they are 'touched.'"
This seemingly simple statement breaks through the dilemmas of countless people.
Don't think that "cognition" can save you!
Most of the time, most people know so many principles, yet still cannot live a good life. Ultimately, it is because we cannot drive ourselves through reason;
1️⃣ The huge gap between rational cognition and emotional drive.
We all have such experiences: knowing a principle, such as "go to bed early," "exercise," or "manage finances," is merely a logical understanding in the brain; the brain rationally accepts this concept.
Do you think acceptance = doing well?
Wrong!
Humans are not machines driven by logic; most of our actions are driven by emotions, feelings, and the subconscious.
At most stages of our lives, most people are "knowledgeable but do very little."
2️⃣ "Touch" is an emotional-driven activation mechanism:
"Touch" means that at a certain moment, you are struck by emotions, generating an inner resonance, a sense of crisis, or a feeling of passion, leading you to want to act involuntarily.
For example:
Hearing someone personally share their success story of quitting smoking is far more powerful than reading 100 news articles about the dangers of smoking.
Meeting someone you particularly admire may spark the impulse of "I want to become like that."
I previously recommended two books to everyone: "The Power of Fasting" and "Why We Sleep"; these two books analyze countless medical clinical cases and the human body's structure, as well as horizontal and vertical comparisons, to tell us why what they discuss is important and how serious the consequences can be if you don't do it.
So the difference between watching videos and reading books is:
When you watch short videos, you can only "know" a certain piece of knowledge, but when you read books, you can truly "touch" your nervous system. As creatures that seek benefits and avoid harm, humans must feel immense benefits and significant dangers of inaction to take action.
3️⃣ Touch comes from genuine connection
Why "meet people": the grounding of knowledge relies on the connection between people to convey warmth and establish empathy; otherwise, it is just cold information.
A few years ago, when the market was not doing well, I visited many cities and met many friends from various industries and non-industries, mainly to feel everyone's energy field and establish certain connections.
I enjoy the feeling of meeting like-minded friends in person; the trust level is very high when we meet, and if the other person's energy field is strong, it is easy for them to empower you, creating a positive cycle.
I previously wrote an article: "Why I Continuously Output Thoughts and Perspectives: Doing This Might Help You Change Your Destiny," where I mentioned:
Effective value collisions can lead to excellent connections and interpersonal networks, as well as further in-depth cooperation. For ordinary people, if you do not continuously output, you may never find so many, remarkably educated, curious, and passionate people who you can easily connect with, communicate with at any time, and even develop into friends. Meanwhile, they are willing to share their experiences and perspectives and generously showcase their theoretical foundations and thought processes. Through communication with them, you can learn a vast amount of new knowledge in a short time and broaden your horizons.

Knowledge is not lacking, but deep connections and emotional resonance are scarce.
To summarize:
Change comes from the "rewriting" of neural networks;
We never lack knowledge; what we lack is something that truly makes us "move."
That something is called "touch"—
It comes from a painful case in a book, a real and powerful individual, or a deep conversation that sends chills down your spine.
So I believe there are only two ways we can easily change ourselves:
One is to genuinely immerse ourselves in reading, and the other is to genuinely open ourselves to meet powerful energy fields;
When you are moved by "people" in reality, your neurons will mimic, remember, and solidify certain behavioral patterns—
This is true learning and change. This "internalization" process is something that courses, articles, and videos find it hard to replace.
If we want to truly change something, we should ask less "What do I know?"
We should ask more—"Recently, has there been anything that has truly shocked, moved, or awakened me?"
Start asking yourself more: "Recently, has there been anyone or anything that has truly and profoundly touched me?"
