Crypto ETFs in Turmoil: Consecutive Weekly Outflows for Bitcoin and Ether Funds

The crypto exchange-traded fund (ETF) market faced a turbulent week from Feb. 24 to Feb. 28, with bitcoin ETFs experiencing a net outflow of $2.61 billion, marking the third consecutive week of declines.

Ether ETFs were not spared, registering a net weekly outflow of $335.35 million. The most significant exodus occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 26, when bitcoin ETFs saw a record single-day withdrawal of $1 billion.

Blackrock’s IBIT led the weekly outflows with $1.17 billion, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC with $568.65 million, and Grayscale’s GBTC with $188.84 million. Other notable outflows included Grayscale’s BTC ($147.93 million), Valkyrie’s BRRR ($112.84 million), and WisdomTree’s BTCW ($95.10 million).

These substantial withdrawals contributed to a decline in total net assets for bitcoin ETFs, which fell below the $100 billion mark to $95.38 billion.

Ether ETFs also faced challenges, with Fidelity’s FETH experiencing a net weekly outflow of $56.30 million, Blackrock’s ETHA losing $30.16 million, Bitwise’s ETHW losing $20.72 million, and Grayscale’s ETHE shedding $11.66 million.

The cumulative effect led to ether ETFs’ total net assets dipping below $9 billion, settling at $8.06 billion.

This period marked a continuation of the bearish trend, with bitcoin ETFs enduring outflows for eight consecutive days before a modest inflow on the final day of the week. On the other hand, ether ETFs extended their outflow streak to seven days.

Market analysts attribute these trends to a combination of factors, including broader economic uncertainties caused by tariffs, recent crypto thefts including the Bybit hack, and unmet expectations regarding pro-crypto policies under the current President Trump administration.
