I came online so late because I was busy tinkering with my computer. A couple of days ago, I mentioned that my computer was lagging, and many friends told me that the memory, CPU, motherboard, and even the hard drive could be the problem. After thinking it over, I realized that updating the latter three would be too much hassle, and the service here is quite troublesome. It’s a big job, so I’ll deal with it later. The simplest solution is to upgrade the memory.
That day, I ordered two 32GB memory sticks. I just removed the previous two 8GB sticks, so now I have 64GB of 6,000MHz memory. Let’s see if it still lags.
However, after replacing the memory, I encountered a new problem: the monitor wouldn’t turn on. Although this monitor is also newly purchased, it often has issues, such as not lighting up after powering on, requiring a restart to get it to work. This time, it completely wouldn’t light up. After messing around for half a day, I first discovered that the memory wasn’t seated properly; the RGB lights weren’t even on. I had to go through the process again and even took out my cherished anti-magnetic DP cable.
As a result, it lit up this time, but there were intermittent black screens. I unplugged the cable and tried all three ports on the graphics card and the two ports on the monitor. I suspected the cable was faulty, so I rummaged through my stuff and found an HDMI cable. Great, it worked, but the refresh rate was only 100Hz and wouldn’t go higher. I figured I still needed to use DP.
Then I switched back to the original DP cable, and it lit up again, with the refresh rate back to 165Hz, but the screen kept flickering. I was about to lose it. I tried the ports again, and finally, it lit up, but I suspect it will still occasionally black out when starting up. I didn’t care anymore; I had been messing with it for two hours and hadn’t updated anything.
This computer was bought less than six months ago and wasn’t cheap, so I probably got ripped off. It seems a bit wasteful to replace everything now, so I’ll make do until I move. Next time, whether it’s expensive or cheap, I’ll switch to an iMac; this is too much trouble!!
