After dropping the kids off at school, I suddenly felt inspired to make a cup of hand-brewed coffee.
The most charming aspect of hand brewing lies in its strong sense of ritual. From grinding the beans to brewing, watching the coffee grounds expand little by little, bubbling up, quietly listening to the dripping sound, and inhaling the aroma feels like witnessing a transformation of life!
It reminds me of a book my ex-girlfriend gave me, "The Cafe on the Edge of the World" by John Strelecky—
Many people in reality exist in this world merely to respond to the expectations of others, such as family advice, environmental pressures, and others' opinions. Those people often have a low satisfaction with life.
Moreover, they have not found the meaning of their existence and do not know what kind of life they truly want to live, so they end up wasting their precious time on meaningless, repetitive tasks.
In the end, they become very painful because they neither do what they genuinely want to do nor escape the desire for money, trapped in a cycle with no outlet until life comes to an end.
I summarized this book into three sentences, which I have always regarded as my life creed—
Self-nature is complete, inherently sufficient;
When actions do not yield results, seek within oneself;
No need to seek externally, all desires bring suffering!
Looking back on this year, the biggest change is that I have become much more self-consistent and understand life better. This is a good sign! I hope to continue making progress next year!
