Russia has confirmed that Uganda will become a BRICS partner on Jan. 1, 2025, along with eight other countries: Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan. These nations will join the BRICS alliance as partner countries, but won’t have the same rights as official members, such as voting power and unrestricted participation in summits and meetings. The BRICS partnership is seen as a way for these countries to enhance their economic diplomacy and cooperation on trade, investments, and special projects. They will also gain access to funding from the BRICS development bank and the Contingency Reserve Arrangement, a mechanism to overcome financial crises.
