Tom Lee, a leading American financial strategist and the Managing Partner at Fundstrat Global Advisors, has built quite a reputation for his optimistic outlook on bitcoin. Early in Dec., Lee confidently predicted the cryptocurrency would surpass $100,000 by year’s end. Fast forward to Dec. 11, 2024, and bitcoin (BTC) is holding steady at $101,487 per unit—right on target with his forecast.

Lee joined CNBC’s Closing Bell on Wednesday to weigh in on the Trump administration as the host brought up the anticipated wave of regulatory changes. Agreeing that changes were indeed on the horizon, Lee emphasized that bitcoin (BTC) serves as the clearest indicator of the transformation ahead. “Probably, the best way to measure this is what bitcoin is doing,” Lee remarked on the show. “Because bitcoin faced enormous regulatory burden over the last few years and now we have a White House that is embracing digital assets.”

Lee added:

A new SEC chairman, FTC chairman, and the new Commerce secretary, I think these are actually being viewed as pro-business, reviving animal spirit. But I think a good proxy is watching bitcoin.

The Closing Bell host then pressed Lee for a concrete forecast, saying he needed him to commit to a “legit target for 2025 for bitcoin.” Without missing a beat, Lee replied, “We think it’s going to follow a similar halving cycle that we’ve seen in the past, that would imply something around $250,000 per bitcoin in 2025.” On top of that, Lee said “We have a Trump put” because “bitcoin is potentially a strategic reserve asset for the U.S. government,” Lee explained.
