U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday rolled out new promises aimed at bolstering support for Black men, a pivotal group she’s concentrating on as part of her larger strategy to solidify her base before the upcoming November presidential election. These measures are part of her broader “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men,” intended to tackle the economic and social issues that disproportionately affect Black Americans.

Among the key components of her plan is a focus on digital assets, including cryptocurrency. One aspect of her agenda was described as “Enabling Black men who hold digital assets to benefit from financial innovation.” Noting that “more than 20% of Black Americans own or have owned cryptocurrency assets” and “Vice President Harris appreciates the ways in which new technologies can broaden access to banking and financial services,” the document outlining Harris’ plan detailed:

She will make sure owners of and investors in digital assets benefit from a regulatory framework so that Black men and others who participate in this market are protected.

Last month, the vice president pledged to support innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and digital assets while ensuring consumer and investor protection. Her remarks, which emphasized AI and cryptocurrency as key elements of her economic vision, marked her first direct statement on cryptocurrency as the Democratic nominee.

Harris’ agenda for Black men includes several key initiatives beyond cryptocurrency. She plans to promote economic empowerment through forgivable loans of up to $20,000 for Black entrepreneurs, expanding access to capital for small businesses, and increasing job opportunities. She also seeks to reduce employment barriers, especially for those with criminal records, and promote fair hiring practices. The plan supports investments in affordable housing, homeownership, education, apprenticeships, and training programs. Additionally, it addresses healthcare disparities, mental health services, and support for Black farmers, while aiming to strengthen police reform and voting rights protections.
