Marcos Galperin, founder and CEO of Latin America’s e-commerce and financial services giant Mercado Libre, shared his perspective on bitcoin and cryptocurrency. In a recent interview, Galperin stated that he believes cryptocurrencies will play a “very, very important role” in the future of people’s finances. He disclosed that he invested in bitcoin in 2013 when Mercado Libre sent an envoy to the U.S. to research new technologies. Galperin praised bitcoin’s independence from government intervention, explaining that “when one sees the fiscal deficits that exist in all the governments of the world, having a currency that governments cannot devalue, like bitcoin, is absolutely fundamental.”
