A Consensys and Harrisx study found that nearly half (49%) of U.S. voters consider a pro-crypto stance important, and 62% are willing to cross party lines for a candidate with pro-crypto policies.

While no single party has a monopoly on the issue, the study found that 85% of respondents want presidential candidates to take a pro-crypto position. The study report suggests that a party understanding and acting on this could gain significant votes in the increasingly competitive electoral race.

Regarding crypto regulation, 44% of respondents believe the Biden administration is not doing enough to support the industry. When asked about a policy likely to sway their vote, 78% said they would support politicians who promise to protect users from crypto scams.

Joe Lubin, CEO and co-founder of Consensys and Ethereum, commented on the findings:

There’s a myth that the crypto sector doesn’t want regulation, but that’s simply not true. Consensys is an active proponent of much-needed regulatory clarity to enable an industry that serves as the backbone of countless new technologies and innovations to thrive in the United States. We’ve been operating under a cloud of uncertainty for too long, and the results of this poll show that crypto is a bipartisan issue, with voters also calling for clarity and a pro-crypto stance.

Regarding which U.S. body should regulate the crypto industry, the study found that 15% of the respondents believe the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is currently overseeing the sector. Only 4% believe the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is currently regulating the crypto sector.

Eleven percent of respondents said the U.S. Treasury Department is currently responsible, the same proportion as those who believe the industry is self-regulating. Meanwhile, when asked to identify entities or U.S. politicians with enough understanding of crypto to set appropriate policies, 70% chose the SEC, while 67% chose the CFTC.

Among politicians, 53% of respondents believe Donald Trump understands the crypto industry well enough to set the right policies. This is 12 percentage points higher than U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris’s 41%. Current U.S. President Joe Biden has the lowest score with 36%.
