Worldcoin and Tools for Humanity Fined in South Korea

Worldcoin, the biometric identification project, and its parent company, Tools For Humanity (TFH), have been fined by the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC), South Korea’s data protection agency, for violating the Personal Information Protection Act. According to local media, Worldcoin did not inform data collection subjects about the collection and use purposes, retention and use periods, and other information required by the country’s laws. Additionally, the institution stated that Worldcoin and TFH did not comply with law requirements for transferring the collected information overseas. The fines totaled $865,000, with the PIPC issuing recommendations to the two companies.
