Airdrop season is in full swing, with apps, protocols, and other projects seizing upon bear market vibes and regulatory shifts to finally drop their tokens—and potentially reward millions of crypto users in the process.

What exactly is an airdrop, though? When it comes to crypto tokens, an airdrop is typically a way for a project to reward its early users and contributors by giving them a share of a newly launched token, all while spreading the tokens far and wide for decentralized governance.

When it comes to blockchain networks and tokens primed specifically for gaming, there are some pretty compelling airdrops on the horizon in the months ahead. Here’s a look at what’s coming for gamers—there may still be time to get involved and score some tokens ahead.

Off the Grid

Avalanche-based Off the Grid burst onto the scene after early access opened to the public in October, jumping to the top of the Epic Games Store’s top free titles chart in short order. Since that time, publisher Gunzilla Games partnered with Delphi Ventures to advise on the launch of a GUNZ Foundation, which will oversee the rollout of the GUN token.

The GUN token and GUNZ mainnet are expected to launch in Q1 2025, though no official details of the token eligibility and launch date have been finalized.

Farm Frens

The developer of Telegram game Farm Frens delayed its Base token launch to February after Telegram announced that all crypto integrations for mini apps would need to exclusively operate via The Open Network (TON).

The projects’ FREN token will reward players of both Farm Frens and holders of NFTs for its Everseed tower defense game, with allocations determined based on the number of Nuts, Dirt, and Dung accrued in Farm Frens and the amount of Everseed Ranger, Sprout, and Diddit NFTs held.

The project completed its final token snapshot on January 20. It is expected to share its TGE date on February 11 at the conclusion of its “Chili Weather” event.

Zoo

Telegram game Zoo—sort of a streamlined take on Microsoft’s classic Zoo Tycoon—is expected to launch its ZOO token soon. On January 31, the game completed its mining phase, in which users could acquire in-game ZOO that will eventually turn into tokens at a 1:1 ratio. Players were able to boost their earnings by buying and feeding animals, upgrading enclosures, and completing quests daily.

No official date for token launch has been announced.

Onchain Heroes

Onchain Heroes, a fully on-chain idle RPG, told its followers that “REDACTED” would come with the launch of Abstract mainnet, the layer-2 network from the Pudgy Penguins parent company.

Though no name is set for the token, it’s expected to be distributed to holders of the Onchain Heroes Genesis Rings NFT, which previously launched on the Ethereum blockchain.

The game has not yet launched, the project’s founder has shared user interface previews as recently as February 6.

TapSwap

Tap-to-earn game TapSwap previously delayed its TAPS token launch into mid-February on the advice of a “tier-1 decentralized exchange,” and now will launch its token on Binance’s BNB Chain instead of TON.

Aiming to launch with strong market conditions, developers previously claimed that the TAPS token will become critical to the TapSwap ecosystem moving forward, which is pivoting focus to prioritize skill-based gaming.

Airdrop eligibility will be determined based on a player’s overall engagement and frequency with TapSwap and its city-builder game mode.

The game completed its first season on February 6, but did not share information about a potential move from Telegram, which would be required in order to maintain its crypto components based on Telegram’s exclusivity agreement with The Open Network.

Captain Tsubasa: Rivals

Soccer-themed tap-to-earn game Captain Tsubasa: Rivals racked up millions of players after its launch on Telegram, and soon it will airdrop its JOHN token to some of them.

Users are expected to earn allotments of the JOHN token, which will likely launch on TON, based on criteria like the total accumulated soccer balls in game, unlocked players and levels, and how many tasks they’ve completed. No official date for the airdrop has been provided but announcements indicate it is “coming soon."

The project expanded its app to LINE in January, though the project indicated that its Telegram mini app is still a “key part” of its journey.

Rumble Kong League

Rumble Kong League is gearing up for a Q1 2025 launch for its FAME token. The token will be made available to those earning in-game, utilizing the now-popular play-to-airdrop mechanics which will reward those playing the RKL basketball game on its iOS or Android apps with the eventual FAME token.

The project concluded its soft-launch season on January 26, closing play as it gears for a newly announced migration to Ethereum gaming sidechain, Ronin.

FAME will have a supply of 7 billion total tokens, with 30% earmarked for the community airdrop, staking, and other rewards. No official token launch date has been provided.

B3

Ethereum layer-3 network and gaming hub B3, built on Coinbase's Base network, announced plans in late January to launch a B3 token—and it's launching on Monday, February 10.

The ecosystem, which has garnered more than 80 total games and 6 million players since it launched, aims to make its B3 token a ticket to publisher rewards, new gamechains, and exposure to new gaming tokens.

The platform’s documentation indicates that its current point systems BP and XP will convert to tokens in some ratio, though nothing has been disclosed at this time. A spokesperson for the platform previously told Decrypt that more information is expected soon.

Kuroro

Kuroro, a “creature collecting gaming ecosystem,” launched its Kuroro Wilds alpha via its hub on February 5. The alpha launch features a two week event which will allow users to earn from 30 million KURO tokens, treasure eggs, and more as part of the play-to-airdrop campaign.

In Kuroro Wilds, a collecting-focused RPG, users can build teams, battle, fish, and more as they undergo missions and explore the Kuroro Islands. The project migrated to Ronin in September 2024 and boasts more than 100,000 daily active users and 1 million registered players.

The initial Kuroro Wilds alpha test is available to play as of this writing, letting players earn a share of airdrop points from a pool that's equivalent to 10 million on-chain KURO tokens.

Fishing Frenzy

Inspired by Stardew Valley and Runescape, Fishing Frenzy– a mobile game on Ronin–teased plans for allocations of “$REDACTED” for holders of its upcoming Founder Pass NFT, potentially implying a token launch ahead.

The project is built by on-chain gaming studio Uncharted, which also built the idle strategy game, Gangsters Arena.

More than 800,000 users played Fishing Frenzy—which is also playable on desktop—in its first phase, with its second phase expected soon. More details about its expected token and founding NFT mint are expected soon.
