#Arbitrum DAO Voting Security Upgrade#

The Arbitrum DAO is voting on a proposal called BoLD (Bounded Liquidity Delay) protocol, which aims to upgrade the security of Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova. BoLD is an interactive fraud proof dispute protocol for optimistic rollups, which will gradually replace the existing allowlist validator system after its launch on the Arbitrum testnet, enabling anyone to participate in network security assurance. The core of the proposal lies in introducing a fixed time window to resolve chain state disputes, reducing the risk of delay attacks, which prevent malicious actors from disrupting the system by intentionally prolonging the dispute resolution process. This time window is currently set at two challenge periods (approximately 13 days) with a two-day grace period for the Arbitrum Security Council to intervene if necessary. Another highlight of BoLD is shifting the focus of disputes from individual validators to the deterministic execution of the L2 state, achieved by allowing anyone to participate in the verification process. Currently, the proposal has received unanimous support from community members and is expected to be implemented on Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova in February 2025.
