#Rubio for Secretary of State#

Marco Rubio was confirmed as U.S. Secretary of State by the Senate with a vote of 99-0, making him the first senior cabinet official in the Trump administration to be confirmed by the Senate. Rubio, a Republican senator from Florida since 2011, was nominated by President Trump and his nomination received support from both Republicans and several Democratic senators. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously approved Rubio's nomination and referred it to the full Senate, where a confirmation vote was expected tonight. Majority Leader McConnell said he hoped to begin in-person voting as soon as possible and expressed his happiness with Rubio's appointment as Secretary of State. Schumer and Shaheen, the ranking Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, also announced they would vote in favor of Rubio's nomination.
