Russia bans cryptocurrency mining in 10 regions for 6 years

BlockBeats reported on December 24th that from January 1, 2025, 10 regions of Russia (Dagestan, Ingushetia Republic, Kabardino Balkar, Karachay Cherkess Republic, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Donetsk, and Lugansk People's Republic, as well as Zaporizhzhia Oblast and Kherson Oblast) will completely ban cryptocurrency mining for a period of six years. The ban will continue until March 15, 2031.
Russian lawmakers have also approved seasonal restrictions in major cryptocurrency mining areas to prevent power outages. These restrictions are consistent with the Russian Cryptocurrency Mining Law signed by the President in August and October 2024.
