A few books for Bitcoin enthusiasts to challenge popular ways of thinking:
"Manias Panics and Crashes" by Kindleberger
"Fountain of Fortune" by Von Glahn
"A History of American Currency" by Sumner
"Money, Prices, and Civilization in the Mediterranean World" by Cipolla
Just a few suggestions among many. Don't only read books from self-avowed Bitcoiners giving you their curated summaries of the past. Go upstream and read the history yourself. Learn about periods where societies dealt with inelastic money and which traits of monetary systems were successful vs not. Don't relegate yourself to parroting others' ideas who themselves may be incomplete or biased. A cultural zeitgeist has formed on the backs of some very enthusiastic sales people, and it has birthed intellectual laziness among adopters. Create your own informed view. Verify, don't trust.
