On April 17th, according to CNBC, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stated that "since April 5th, CBP has levied over $500 million in new reciprocal tariffs, bringing the total tariff revenue from 15 presidential trade actions implemented since January 20, 2025 to over $21 billion This latest statement was released after a 10 hour financial system malfunction. During the malfunction, US importers were unable to enter a code that could have exempted goods already in transit by sea from higher tariffs. Even during brief system failures, CBP's average daily revenue stream of $250 million has not been interrupted. Trump has repeatedly stated that the United States earns $2 billion in revenue every day through tariffs. But the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance on Monday showed that the daily deposits under the "Customs and Specific Consumption Tax" category on that day were only $305 million. All tariffs are levied by US Customs at the port of entry.
