“They just shouldn’t enter the country illegally then” Drug smugglers and criminals here to cause harm? Sure. But how the fuck can you fault people fleeing circumstance? A kid facing gang violence? A father trying to get his kids somewhere safe? If you were any of them, you’d risk it all and hop that fence for your family as well. Treating acts of desperation the same as criminality is insane. Because had any of us had the misfortune of being born in these circumstances else where, we’d likely do the same. We need to make it easier for people to come to the US legally and safely. Then you can make it much harder for people to cross illegally without their being complex cases.
