According to a report by Golden Finance, a lawsuit filed on Monday questions the legality of US President Trump's comprehensive imposition of tariffs worldwide. The Liberty Justice Center, a liberal public interest legal center located in Texas, filed a lawsuit with the United States International Trade Court on Monday on behalf of five owner operated businesses that were reportedly harmed by the new tariffs. This is the most extensive legal action against Trump's reduced tariffs to date. The lawsuit claims that Trump improperly used a 1970s law, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, to implement most of his tariff system, and that the president is infringing on congressional power. The Liberty Justice Center is requesting the court to issue a broad order to prevent the comprehensive imposition of tariffs based on IEEPA; The court has national jurisdiction to hear cases involving international trade.
