Apple CEO Tim Cook explained why Apple is so dependent on Chinese manufacturing. It's not because of the labor shortage. Cook directly said that many people think that Apple went to China because of cheap labor. This idea is outdated! China's labor costs have long been high. Why? The key lies in skilled workers, especially those who are engaged in precision manufacturing and molds (called "tooling skills" in English). Apple needs this kind of top-notch technology and precision to make those high-tech products. How good is China in this area? Cook gave an example, saying that in the United States, if you want to find a room full of mold engineers for a meeting, you may not be able to get everyone together. But in China, you can "fill up several football fields"! This means that China has a huge reserve of professional talents in this area, and the technology is very good ("very deep"). In the context of Trump's tariff war with China, these words are meaningful. Trump always wants to bring production lines back to the United States. Cook is explaining that it is not that he does not want to move, but it is really difficult because the United States lacks skilled workers of this scale
