Trump is essentially asking the Supreme Court if he can fire Jerome Powell. Like central banks or not, this would be a move in the wrong direction. Trump has repeatedly stated that Powell should lower interest rates. This would likely lead to more inflation in the long run. Irrespective of who is president in the US, they should not have the power to fire the Federal Reserve Chair at will just because they disagree with the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. Such power would almost always lead to more inflation. This would not be an improvement of the status quo towards less inflation.
