Earlier this year, we made the difficult decision to discontinue our grant to @SimSulKim, who had been providing Korean language support for ICON's KakaoTalk Community. I want to take this opportunity to explain the reasoning behind this decision and address any potential misunderstandings. First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the exceptional work Simsul has done over the years. His contributions have been invaluable, and I have personally expressed my gratitude to him. While I had hoped to thank him in person during my visit to Korea, circumstances unfortunately did not allow for it. I remain optimistic about collaborating with him again in the future if the opportunity arises. It’s important to clarify that this decision was not driven by budgetary constraints or cost-cutting measures. While cost considerations are always part of our decision-making process, this particular grant accounted for less than 1% of our total annual budget. The primary factor behind this decision lies in the regulatory landscape in Korea. Despite our sustained efforts to strengthen our presence there, it has become evident that various Korean government agencies are resistant to our operations. To mitigate legal risks, we have had to adjust our strategies accordingly. As we shift our focus more toward DeFi, the regulatory uncertainty in Korea poses significant challenges. Many legitimate Korean crypto projects have relocated operations outside of Korea due to these issues. Additionally, projects labeled as "Kimchi Coin" face disproportionate scrutiny and compliance burdens compared to others in the industry. We understand the frustration this may cause within our Korean community. We deeply value their support and hope to resume active engagement when there is greater regulatory clarity. Until then, we remain committed to fostering global growth while navigating these challenges responsibly. At times, I feel a deep sense of frustration with the situation in Korea. We have spent millions of dollars - resources that could have been better allocated to R&D - on responding to and educating these government agencies. Despite these challenges, as a Korean-born founder, I remain committed to engaging strategically in the hopes of contributing to a brighter future. Thank you.
