The Governor of the UAE Central Bank expects the central bank's digital currency to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2025

According to Cointelegraph, Khaled Mohamed Balama, the Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE), stated that the digital dirham, a blockchain based central bank digital currency (CBDC), is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2025. This digital currency will help enhance financial stability and combat financial crime. In addition, digital dirhams will be accepted in all payment channels, just like physical currency. Balama stated that digital dirhams will further promote the development of innovative digital products, services, and new business models, while reducing costs and increasing opportunities to enter international markets.
