South Korea announces currency holdings of public officials, with Seoul City Councilor Kim Hye young leading with 1.7 billion Korean won

According to the Korean Culture Daily, the Ethics Committee for Public Officials of the South Korean government disclosed the changes in assets for the year 2025, and Seoul City Councilor Kim Hye young ranked first among high-ranking officials with holdings of 1.7 billion Korean won (approximately 1.27 million US dollars) in cryptocurrency assets. She declared to hold 16 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, and her spouse and eldest son also hold ETH, DOGE, and XRP. Out of a total of 2047 public officials, 411 (approximately 20.1%) declared ownership of cryptocurrency assets, totaling 14.4 billion Korean won, with an average of 35.07 million Korean won per person.
