According to Techcrunch, Michael Seibel announced on X on Wednesday evening that after working at Y Combinator (YC) for over 12 years, he will transition to the role of "Honorary Partner". Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan also shared this news separately in a company blog post, emphasizing Seibel's long-term partnership history with the accelerator. Seibel initially joined YC as a founder and participated in the project twice - once with streaming startup Justin TV, Another time is the streaming application Socialcam. Subsequently, Seibel served as a group partner, Managing Director, and CEO of YC Accelerator. It is worth noting that Seibel has recently returned to the role of a group partner with less involvement in operations. In a blog post by YC last year, he wrote that he was preparing to "transfer my leadership responsibilities" and "officially take effect" after the completion of the accelerator's winter startup batch.
According to reports, this move surprised some YC employees - partly because Tan was running an independent venture fund outside of YC at the time, but also because they believed Seibel was the next candidate to take over the position. At the time of this announcement, there are about two weeks left until the founders of YC's spring batch start working; The plan will last from April to June.
