The South Seoul District Prosecutors Office has requested the court to sentence 51 year old man Kang to 10 years in prison for stabbing Lee Hyung soo, CEO of local cryptocurrency custody company Haru Invest, in court in August 2024. The attacker Kang lost 100 bitcoins (approximately $8.3 million) on his investment in Haru and lost control of his emotions. He repeatedly stabbed Li in the neck with a fruit knife. Although Li was quickly taken to the hospital, his life was not endangered. South Korean prosecutors accuse Haru Invest of deceiving 16000 investors worldwide with a "guaranteed 16% return" from March 2020 to June 2023, involving a total amount of 1.4 trillion Korean won (approximately 962 million US dollars). Haru Invest suddenly suspended deposits and withdrawals on June 13, 2023, and declared bankruptcy in November of the same year.
