Odaily Planet Daily News: The Seoul Southern District Prosecutor's Office today requested the court to sentence a 51 year old man named Jiang, who attacked Hugo Hyungsoo Lee, the CEO of the South Korean encrypted CeFi platform Haru Invest, to 10 years in prison. The case has attracted widespread attention due to its involvement in massive cryptocurrency fraud and court violence. In August 2024, Jiang repeatedly stabbed Li Hengzhu in the neck with a fruit knife during his fraud trial, but it did not pose a threat to his life. The perpetrator Jiang previously deposited 100 bitcoins (currently worth approximately $8.3 million) in Haru Invest and was unable to retrieve them. South Korean prosecutors accuse Haru Invest of deceiving 16000 investors worldwide with a "guaranteed 16% return" from March 2020 to June 2023, involving a total amount of 1.4 trillion Korean won (approximately 962 million US dollars). Haru Invest suddenly suspended deposits and withdrawals on June 13, 2023, and declared bankruptcy in November of the same year. The final sentencing verdict for the criminal Jiang is scheduled for April 4th, while Haru Invest's bankruptcy liquidation is still ongoing, and it is still unknown whether investors can recover their losses.
