Our Net International Reserves (NIR) are like our country’s savings, money set aside to protect us in tough times. Right now, our reserves stand strong at 5.6 billion, giving us a safety net against global shocks. Some people are saying we should spend it now for short-term needs. But that would be like using your rent money to throw a party, fun for a moment, but disastrous when the bills come due. Remember COVID? If we didn’t have reserves, how would we have bought vaccines or kept essential goods flowing? The NIR keeps our economy stable, protects jobs, and ensures we’re ready for emergencies. Good leadership means thinking ahead and making smart choices. We will continue to manage Jamaica’s economy responsibly so that our future remains secure. #BudgetDebate2025 #WeChooseJamaica
