Because the original destination last night was the British Virgin Islands, we didn’t intend to land in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the flight operator hasn’t been a signatory carrier authorized to transport those VWP-eligible passengers to the United States without a visa.
For an operator to become a signatory carrier, they must comply with all ESTA requirements and submit necessary documentation to CBP, such as a signed Form I-775. This status is crucial because only signatory carriers are authorized to transport such passengers.
I last entered the United State on January 5, and the immigration officer reused my pervious admission, allowing me to stay until April 4.
I’m not sure whether SpaceX is a signatory carrier, but if, after splashdown, we got stuck in the Pacific Ocean and couldn’t re-enter the U.S., that would make for a really bad day. The officer suggested I should take a quick visa run to the British Virgin Islands and return the next day.
Maybe I should pay 5M to @realDonaldTrump to avoid this situation next time. 🤯
