People seem to think this registration thing is just filling out your border form. It's not. It re-enables an old law on the books that was dormant due to decades of EOs replacing it. It defines "registration" as having a fingerprint ID card *on you at all times* Any US tourist, including on a legal visa, would now face a *criminal offense* if they do not carry with them this ID and present it on request. A criminal conviction of any type ejects you from the US and bars you from re-entering. And since the EO directs the criminal prosecution component (on top of the civil component) to be a priority, that encourages prosecution to pursue the criminal charge in each case instead of just the potential 100 fine. So we're saying to legal tourists "carry this ID card with your fingerprint and serial number on it, at all times, like cattle, or you are a criminal and will be barred from this country." That is why it's bat shit. For legal tourists, this information is collected when they cross the border. There is literally no fucking reason to play a game that empowers law enforcement to do random paper checks, and encourages prosecutors to criminalize tourists.
