According to a report by Golden Finance, on chain detective ZachXBT revealed that a confiscation lawsuit filed by US law enforcement agencies yesterday revealed the reason behind Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen's theft of approximately $150 million (283 million XRP) in January 2024. The incident originated from Larsen storing private keys in the LastPass password manager, which suffered a data breach in 2022.
The file shows that after the victim inputs the private key of the cryptocurrency wallet into the online password manager, the physical record of the private key will be immediately destroyed. The password manager suffered two major data breaches in August and November 2022, with attackers stealing encrypted passwords and vault data. The FBI investigation found that these stolen data were used to illegally access multiple victims' electronic accounts and steal information, cryptocurrency, and other data.
