UK antitrust regulators will not launch a formal investigation into Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI

According to Foresight News, officials from the UK antitrust regulator have stated that they will not launch a formal investigation into Microsoft's (MSFT. O) partnership with ChatGPT manufacturer OpenAI. The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched a review in December 2023 to determine whether Microsoft's investment in OpenAI and its partnership with the AI startup should be seen as a de facto merger that could stifle competition in the country. At present, the authorities have concluded that this is not the case, and therefore have chosen not to launch a formal investigation.
