The upcoming Pectra upgrade of Ethereum was successfully activated on the Sepolia testnet early this morning. This is the last major testing phase before the mainnet release, and the mainnet upgrade is expected to take place in early April.
This upgrade aims to enhance the scalability, security, and availability of Ethereum. The Pectra upgrade combines the features of "Prague" (execution layer changes) and "Electra" (consensus layer updates), bringing multiple important improvements, including optimizing the user experience and account abstraction of encrypted wallets through EIP-7702, increasing the validator staking limit from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH through EIP-7251, and increasing the maximum number of Blob through EIP-7691 to promote Rollup scalability.
Prior to this, Pectra had launched the Holesky testnet on February 24th. However, due to errors in executing the client's deposit contract address, the chain split and termination delay occurred. The development team quickly fixed the related issues and proceeded with the deployment of Sepolia as planned.
