It’s worth noting that this meeting was set to cover Canada seeking nuclear security guarantees from the UK. With the King still as the head of state, and much of Canada being crown land, Canada always has security guarantees from the UK. However, never before has that included a nuclear umbrella, because it used to be able to count on its US alliance, and its lack of other neighboring countries to not need that. In light of Trump’s actions towards Ukraine, and his alienation of Canadian’s, Canada is taking his rhetoric against Canada seriously enough that Canadians have want to expand their security guarantees. When Canada is seeking a nuclear deterrence against you, you know you are on the wrong side of history.
