Odaily Planet Daily News: According to a statement released by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Monday, the agency's newly established cryptocurrency working group will hold its first roundtable meeting on March 21 at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., with the theme of "How We Got Here and How to Move Forward - Defining Securities States. This will be part of the "Spring Sprint towards Cryptocurrency Clarity" conference series.
Republican commissioner Hester Peirce, who leads the working group, said in a statement, "I look forward to leveraging the public's expertise to develop a viable regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies
Compared to the Biden administration, the SEC has undergone significant changes in cryptocurrency regulation. Former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler has requested that cryptocurrency companies register with the agency, claiming that most cryptocurrencies are securities and filing lawsuits against multiple institutions.
Since the establishment of the Cryptocurrency Working Group by Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda at the end of January, the agency has withdrawn lawsuits and investigations against multiple cryptocurrency companies, including the recent case against Yuga Labs on Monday. In the past week, the SEC also announced that meme coins are not considered securities and may not be subject to federal securities laws. (The Block)
