🚨NEW: @coinbase is trying to pinpoint exactly how much the @SECGov spent on non-fraud investigations and enforcement actions against the #crypto industry under former chairman Gary Gensler. Through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed this morning, the company says it’s seeking information on all investigations and lawsuits related to the offer and sale of digital assets, secondary market transactions, staking and lending from April 17, 2021 to January 20, 2025. The request includes the number and names of investigations and enforcement actions during that period as well as information on SEC employees and contractors, including hours worked and pay, plus budget and compensation details for the SEC’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit. Coinbase’s Chief Legal Officer @iampaulgrewal tells me the move is about transparency for the American taxpayers, and he’s hopeful the new SEC leadership will continue to turn over a new leaf when it comes to accountability. The SEC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
