If you spent the last 18 months shilling the hell out of memecoins/celebcoins and called them "retail onboarding vehicles" then you don't get to now say things like "just don't buy them if you don't want to get rugged". The core issue here is that a massively toxic culture was created around memecoins that was based on lies, delusion and false hope. "Financial nihilism" was pushed by many leaders in this ecosystem as the only way for people to "make it" and memecoins were also marketed as a revolt against VC coins. In reality, the worst and most unfair casino in history was created where the extremely very few win and the majority lose and lose big. I had hoped that after last cycle, when we let the likes of SBF and Do Kwon rise to incredible influence, that things would be a bit different this time. Turns out, many of the same people who grifted back then just grifted again this cycle and so many people gave them another pass for it. Yes, the chains are permissionless and people can do what they want on them, but that doesn't mean that we should champion literal scams and crime - this just leads to ruin for everyone.
