The confrontation between Musk and Washington has become the latest cover of Time magazine, with Elon Musk leading a massive government streamlining campaign in the United States. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by him has taken over the US digital services sector and entered the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to lay off employees, cut budgets, and reorganize federal agencies. In early February, DOGE attempted to forcibly enter the headquarters of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), but was refused. Musk referred to it as a "criminal organization" on X, and the agency almost completely shut down afterwards. The Trump administration has authorized Musk to advance the "Project 2025" reform, with the goal of reducing government size and eliminating opposition forces. Several civil servants were forced to resign due to their refusal to cooperate, and some senior executives of institutions were replaced. The Democratic Party and labor unions have initiated legal proceedings, and some courts have ruled to suspend related actions. But Musk still controls key institutions, and there are concerns that government power may be excessively influenced by private entrepreneurs.
