The Ethereum Foundation is a non-profit organization developing the Ethereum ecosystem. Following recent leadership adjustments, the organization is shifting its focus towards user experience and first-layer scaling challenges.

On April 21, Ethereum Foundation co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak shared a post on X detailing the changes that have occurred after the leadership structure adjustment.

Stańczak stated that this change aims to give Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin more time for research and exploration, rather than dealing with daily tasks and crisis management.

"He wrote: "Whenever Vitalik shares insights or conveys direction, he accelerates the realization of significant long-term breakthroughs.

Stańczak added that Buterin's recent articles have advanced promising pathways and helped the community realign around the organization's core values.

On March 1, the Ethereum Foundation announced that its core researcher Wang Xiaowei and Nethermind CEO Stańczak would become co-directors of the organization starting March 17.

Since the leadership structure of the organization changed, Buterin has stepped back from daily operations. Since then, he has made several suggestions regarding the privacy and performance limitations of the Ethereum network.

On April 11, the Ethereum co-founder unveiled a privacy roadmap for the Ethereum network. In the post, Buterin proposed that the network should have the capability for anonymous user transactions. Buterin stated that these features should "preferably be enabled by default."

In addition to transaction privacy, Buterin also shared an article about the speed and efficiency of Ethereum. On April 20, Buterin proposed modifications to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) contract language to improve the efficiency and speed of the blockchain execution layer.

Stańczak mentioned that while Buterin's proposals are "always significant," they should serve to initiate dialogue and encourage progress in various research areas. The executive stated that the community can refine or reject these ideas.

Stańczak said that the Ethereum Foundation will shift most of its research towards "near-term" goals, including addressing user experience and scaling challenges in the upcoming protocol upgrades.

Stańczak added that the foundation will focus on first-layer scaling, second-layer scaling support, and user experience improvements, such as interoperability, in the Pectra, Fusaka, and Glamsterdam upgrades.

The executive stated that while the focus is on near-term outcomes, the team is also exploring how to introduce more long-term projects.

"Posts from our top researchers help some of these projects ship within a year or two through initiatives like next-generation execution and consensus layers," Stańczak said. Cointelegraph reached out to the Ethereum Foundation for comment but had not received a response by the time of publication.
