The developers behind the Ethereum Layer 2 network Aztec Network have launched a reporting platform called StealthNote, which allows employees to express dissatisfaction with their employers without revealing their identities.

StealthNote uses zero-knowledge proofs to verify that posts on its platform are written by individuals who have access to a company email address.

Saleel Pichen, a developer at Aztec Labs, wrote in an X post on April 14 that StealthNote created a zero-knowledge proof for Google JSON Web Token to verify user identity, allowing the platform to prove that the poster has "an email from the company domain without disclosing any personal information."

Aztec Labs and personnel from Cornell University have published two recent posts on StealthNote Source: StealthNote.xyz

According to Aztec's documentation, this privacy solution has been in development since at least October 22, and Aztec's first test post was published about three months ago.

Employees from the Ethereum Foundation, StarkWare, and Scroll, as well as staff from Columbia University and Cornell University, have posted on StealthNote, primarily sharing greetings and expressing support for the privacy solution.

"Make privacy cool again," wrote a staff member from Nim Network.

Vitalik Buterin states that zero-knowledge proofs are more important than ever

As concerns over data security and government surveillance continue to grow, zero-knowledge proofs have become an increasingly utilized privacy solution in the internet age.

These concerns were raised by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in a blog post on April 14, where he criticized the government's often well-meaning assumption that sacrificing privacy for a "more transparent society" is acceptable.

He praised zero-knowledge proofs as a solution to mitigate this trade-off, emphasizing that the technology allows for "fine control over who can see what information."

The privacy-focused Aztec Network was launched on Ethereum in February 2020.

The company raised $100 million in a Series B funding round led by tech-focused venture capital firm Andreessen "a16z" Horowitz in December 2022, with A Capital and King River also participating in the investment.
