Meeting friends from eight or nine years ago when I go out still feels very nostalgic—
The other day, I was looking through @pandaBA007's WeChat and found it interesting that we met eight years ago. To be honest, among our group, there are really not many who have made it this far and are still active on the front lines.
Some either stop caring about the world after getting rich; some have blown up their accounts midway and deleted their social media; and of course, there are those who entered the scene without clarity.
I know many people like that;
So if you ask why someone can still persist in BUILDING and creating in this circle, I think they must have a few fundamental qualities.
First, it’s love and gratitude.
A few days ago in HK, I had dinner with some old friends, and we talked about this topic. The Web3 industry has truly changed the trajectory of our lives.
Without it, we might just be ordinary people in some office cubicle, clocking in and out, paying off mortgages—
Crypto has given us the possibility of social mobility, and even if not everyone succeeds, at least we see a path to freedom.
We have respect, appreciation, and gratitude for this industry.
So I think everyone should constantly remind themselves: don’t easily FUD the industry, don’t scam, don’t pull the rug, don’t cut off old friends. The reason you’ve made it this far isn’t because you’re so great; it’s because you happened to catch a wave of the times. Don’t take luck for skill.
Then think about how to contribute more to the industry, how to add bricks and tiles to it.
When you succeed, help the world; when you’re struggling, maintain your integrity. Not doing evil is a basic quality!
Second, it’s a sense of awe.
The most dangerous state in this line of work is: after making a bit of money, you start to get cocky, thinking you can see through everything and control everything, believing “I predicted correctly last time,” “I caught a hundred-fold meme,” “I got in on the first round of airdrops,” is enough to make you an authority in the industry.
The result is often “my contract got liquidated,” “liquidity got drained,” “the cross-chain bridge got hacked.”
You must know that in this industry, there are no perpetual victors, only practitioners of control and reverence.
Recently, a friend asked me, “What do you think is the most impressive thing you’ve done in the past few years?”
I thought for a moment and replied with three words: control your hands.
Doing less is victory, controlling impulses is profit. It sounds plain, but this is the fundamental secret to longevity.
Third, it’s a clear awareness of risk.
The entry barrier in this industry is low, but the complexity is extremely high.
If you’re still in mainland China, then certain unknown risks are even higher;
So when others ask me about industry principles, I tell them eight words: tread carefully as if on thin ice, and approach as if facing a deep abyss!
Don’t rush to make money, don’t rush to get rich. In this industry, your opportunities have already surpassed most other fields. You must believe that as long as you proceed steadily, you will definitely be wealthier than most people.
All anxiety stems from a lack of confidence in your future self; the key is to ensure that you don’t encounter any problems;
Ensure your health doesn’t have issues; your investments don’t have problems; your family relationships don’t have issues; your social circle doesn’t have problems; your principles and bottom lines don’t have issues; and your legal boundaries don’t have issues; only then can you survive.
Moreover, the industry risks are extremely high. Many times, the news we see is false, the charts are fabricated, and the narratives are staged.
The real challenge isn’t understanding the projects, but seeing the risks clearly.
You need to know who is behind this coin, whether the market maker has exited, whether the candlestick volume is real or just wash trading, whether the community is genuinely active or just a bot farm.
And risk doesn’t only exist within projects; it also lies within yourself. For example, greed, FOMO, irrationally increasing your position under pressure, wanting to make money just because others are making money, wanting to be popular just because others are popular—all of these are the true sources of fatal risk.
I often say: the market isn’t as good as you think, but it’s also not as bad as you think. The essence of all problems is that you think too fast and act too impulsively.
In summary, we veterans who are still here are not because we move fast, but because we are willing to move slowly.
Slow down your judgments, slow down your bets, slow down your evaluations of others, and slow down your own hype.
So yesterday, I shared “On Protracted Warfare,” and I often tell everyone that slow is fast!
The future story of Web3 is still long; don’t lose yourself in the years when you should be settling down to build.
