Recently, Musk recommended a book titled "1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created," which discusses the grand history of how global biology, crops, diseases, populations, and cultures underwent profound reorganization after Columbus "discovered the New World." This global exchange of species shaped the world civilization we know today and marked the true beginning of globalization.

It is evident that Musk is a strong advocate for trade liberalization, which is the origin of the rapid development of human civilization. In contrast, Trump's trade protectionism not only goes against the natural order but also contradicts the laws of historical development, and it will inevitably backfire!

The book provides many examples. For instance, the Industrial Revolution required three basic materials: steel, fossil fuels, and rubber. The rapidly industrializing countries of Europe and North America could obtain far more than the necessary amounts of steel and fossil fuels, but ensuring a supply of rubber became a top priority. The discovery of the Brazilian rubber tree in South America and its large-scale introduction to Southeast Asia for cultivation contributed to the sustainability of the Industrial Revolution's explosive growth.

Another example is the large-scale introduction of American crops to Europe and China, which promoted the harvest and output of food crops, leading to a population explosion. This population boom accelerated the development and progress of world civilization. Key crops in this context were the potato 🥔 and sweet potato 🍠. The potato contains the best elements for sustaining life. It includes all essential nutrients except vitamins A and D, which can be provided by milk. In Smith's time, the diet of the poor in Ireland mainly consisted of potatoes and milk. The introduction of the potato had an impact on modern times comparable to the invention of the steam engine; the potato drove significant population growth in Europe and Asia—the more potatoes, the more people.
