China's tariff countermeasures have arrived as scheduled, with a first increase of 34% in tariffs and a second countermeasure of 50%, raising the total tariffs on U.S. imports to 84% (without countering the 20% base tariff). In fact, after tariffs exceed 50%, the remaining increases are mostly just numerical games, and trade between the two countries has nearly reached a freezing point.
The U.S. tariffs on China, at 104%, have almost no significant increase, but the U.S. is likely to require other countries to lower their tariffs, prompting third-party countries to raise their tariffs on China. Currently, Vietnam is implementing this.
Therefore, it is very likely that the U.S. will release a second phase of tariff reversal, increasing tariffs on China to lower U.S. tariffs. I even believe that the White House may have thought of this early on. If this really begins to be implemented, what will China's countermeasures look like?
