Update: The 10% basic tariff officially takes effect on April 5, while the final reciprocal tariff will officially take effect on April 9. In simple terms, this means that only the 10% basic tariff will be enforced before April 9, and on April 9, the tariffs imposed by the U.S. will be adjusted according to the final tariffs. This gives various countries one more week to discuss whether to adjust their tariffs on the U.S.

The tariffs on China will be executed on a basis of a 20% tariff, plus an additional 34% tariff. Therefore, if China does not make any adjustments, the final tariff will be 54%. Even if China adjusts its tariff on the U.S. to 10%, the final tariff that the U.S. imposes on China could be 30% or 20%.
