Don't rush to disprove Web3; the Web3 revolution will not fail, it just hasn't succeeded yet—
"All great technologies in human history have been 'disproved' in their early stages."
What exactly is Ethereum in the world of the internet?
I think these are very interesting topics, and three years ago, I had an in-depth discussion about them with a few friends—
In fact, all technologies and innovations that later changed the fate of humanity have at some stage been 'disproved.'
1️⃣ Those technological innovations were all considered fanciful, useless, or even scams;
This can already be said to be the fate of technological revolutions.
For example: Thomas Edison faced fierce opposition when promoting electric lighting; many pointed out that electricity brought no benefits to people, wasted energy, and was a pure scam and an evil species that would destroy humanity, even almost being permanently halted due to accusations of "endangering public safety."
After the Wright brothers' first flight, the media mocked: this was "the performance of two madmen in the village," and they were almost arrested as frauds;
Similarly, "the internet is a bubble" and ".com is a scam," many well-known websites went bankrupt, and investors suffered huge losses. After going through this process, we finally welcomed the era of Google, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon.
"Being disproved" is a rite of passage that great innovations must undergo. Because they initially break common sense, challenge authority, and violate humanity's original experiences.
2️⃣ Currently, Web3 is experiencing the path that the internet once walked—
Bubbles, collapses, rebirth, greatness.
I firmly believe this is a misunderstood revolution.
Note: I am using the word "revolution" here; all my passion for this industry comes from these two words, and what attracts me is this statement: Web3 is the value revolution after the information revolution:
• Money is information;
• Identity is information;
• Trust is information;
But when all this "information" can first flow freely on a decentralized platform, the entire logic of the internet will be reconstructed. Something that can reconstruct the world is in front of me; how can I not be excited?
The above statement is something I shared excitedly during an offline salon in 2021, and I almost scared the coffee shop owner away with my enthusiasm for discussing the revolution.
Back to the point, this is precisely the mission of Web3.
If you agree with my perspective, then you will also know that revolutions are very difficult, and there will certainly be failures, even constant "disproofs." A matter that changes the logic of the world cannot be smooth sailing; that would not align with objective laws!
However, being suppressed and disproved by the world, or even temporarily abandoned, cannot stop the revolution—
Because the revolution will ultimately triumph, and we will ultimately be great!
3️⃣ The next topic: let's discuss based on a statement made by the blogger: what exactly is Ethereum?
Is it a platform? A system? An asset? Or a bubble?
I think Ethereum is more like a combination of the three early roles of the internet:
📡 Netscape + 🪟 Windows + ☁️ AWS
Why do I say Ethereum is a hybrid of "Netscape + Microsoft Windows + AWS"? Because it possesses three characteristics:
1) The earliest entry point to Web3;
2) The earliest ecological platform: the "developer platform" of the Web3 ecosystem, on which DeFi, GameFi, and NFTs all rely;
3) The infrastructure supporting thousands of applications: the more people use it, the harder it is to migrate, and the network effect gradually strengthens.
Combining entry, platform, and infrastructure, it has driven the birth and development of the entire Web3 world.
But it may not be the ultimate winner; first-mover advantage is not an eternal moat. New contenders like Solana, Sui, and Aptos are chasing after it, just as Netscape disappeared, Microsoft transformed, and AWS is still behind Amazon—
So what I want to say is: Ethereum is certainly great in my heart. Watching Ethereum grow is my journey through WEB3. Setting aside emotions, currently, although Ethereum has encountered various problems, its decentralized nature has not been lost, nor has the network effect diminished. I do not see short-term issues as problems, so I still hold this part of my assets, and I will wait for a future;
However, I want to say that if there is one asset in WEB3 that is most worth betting on, if we use the word "most," it can only be Bitcoin!
Nothing possesses the characteristics of Bitcoin; nothing has the height and faith of Bitcoin. This is another level of understanding; you can refer to my pinned tweet. I am a BTC MAX, infinitely optimistic about the future of WEB3, and I currently also see potential for Ethereum's comeback;
However, I also want to propose a hypothesis:
What we are discussing now may all be based on our current understanding. The true Web3 "Google" or "Apple" in the future may not be Ethereum, not Solana, not Sui, and not Aptos,
The truly phenomenal has not yet been born.
Perhaps by 2040, when we look back at this history, we will find that Web3 not only was not disproved but instead became the cornerstone of the third round of the internet revolution, redefining our relationship with the digital world.
The wheels of history roll forward; the future of Web3 is worth looking forward to.
