What I say may not be correct; it is just my personal understanding.
Meme does not have a very high demand for external liquidity. Even a meme as prominent as $Trump has not actually mobilized much external liquidity. The main reason is still the high volatility of memes, which can elevate a project to a very high valuation in a very short time.
Although there is capital backing memes, it often involves "pump and then build." The driving force behind the pump mainly comes from "angles," which are understood through comprehension and the dissemination by "KOLs." It can be said that giant "KOLs" have a significant impact on memes.
For example, figures like Trump, Musk, CZ, and the President of Argentina can all be considered giant "KOLs." The difference is that some giant KOLs do not intentionally create memes; it may be their actions that allow opportunists to find an angle and start promoting it, while others deliberately manufacture memes.
The former can go further and have a longer fermentation time, while the latter can gather a large amount of capital in a short time. However, compared to the former, the latter faces greater brutality in PVP.
In contrast, traditional altcoins, which are VC coins listed on exchanges, also focus on on-chain liquidity. However, the initial funding is often provided by the project team itself, including market-making and liquidity arrangements. To be honest, artificially created memes are essentially very similar to VC coins, both relying on trends to promote to users.
However, VC cycles are longer, emphasize "landing," and pay more attention to "building." Before issuing and listing coins, they focus more on "community," which means that altcoins require more liquidity to drive them compared to memes. Of course, many altcoins have also become stagnant after being listed, but the focus of altcoins remains on profitability. Whether users will use them is a key criterion for judging the quality of altcoins.
Another point is that altcoins have formed a mature industrial chain, with various links in the industry having potential profit channels, while memes greatly simplify the industrial chain, often leaving the organizers as the ones with the largest profits.
Essentially, altcoins focus on "effects," while memes focus on "stories."
